Common Signs That Repair Is Needed

The most obvious sign of a problem is cold water coming out of your faucet or showerhead. But there are other things to watch out for that may indicate a need for repairs. We’ve outlined some of them below.

  • Rusty or Discolored Water: This can be a sign of a few different things. It may mean that you have sediment buildup at the bottom of your tank or that the anode rod is failing. It may also mean that your tank walls have started to rust.
  • You Hear Noises Coming from Your Unit: Sometimes, sediment buildup can cause popping sounds as bubbles form underneath and rise to the surface. Whistling sounds often relate to a valve problem.
  • You See Water Pooling: This can happen if there’s a problem with the pressure relief valve or the drain at the bottom. But it may also indicate a crack in your tank, which would mean it’s time to replace the unit.
  • The Pilot Light Won’t Stay On: This can be caused by problems with the thermocouple, which may be damaged or have too obstructing it. You may also have a problem with the control valve failing to deliver gas correctly.
